| Summary: | This paper examines factors influencing several indices of abundance of manatees attracted to the warm water discharged from a power plant in Fort Myers, Florida, during January and February 1984. The purpose is to develop and evaluate indices of abundance suitable for detecting trends specifically in the Fort Myers region, and in general at other warm-water sites. Results of the first year of a two-year study are reported here, with recommendations for studies to be conducted in the second year. | |
