This Early Action Plan Demonstration Project was proposed to demonstrate the ecological results of littoral zone habitat restoration adjacent to industrial waterways. Specific objectives of the project included: providing a visual demonstration of several methods to create or retrofit and restore littoral zone habitat in industrial waterways which have been hardened by vertical sea walls; providing information to industries, ports, local citizens, and municipalities within the Tampa Bay Region about the benefits and monetary requirements of replacing hardened shorelines with alternative retaining materials; providing public education at the demonstration site about the function and importance of the littoral zone habitat and the connection between the bay, littoral zone, wetland, and upland habitats; and removing exotic plants on site.
