| Abstract/Description: | risk-assessment models for sinkhole occurance can use the distribution of relict sinkholes where bare karst is present. extensive historical records, supplemented by further investigation, are required in covered karst areas. areas prone to sinkhole development generally are moderate to small, discrete areas, indicating that sinkhole models can be adjusted for local risk. with high-quality data, local-risk maps and estimates of sinkhole probability can be developed. | |
