Group Posing in Winter Scene.
-
Abstract/Description
-
A group of four Koreshans posing in a Winter scene. This photo is one of a group of photographs that were presumably taken in Philadelphia. This is based on the fact that Ruth Boomer Thomas, daughter of Berthaldine and sister of Bertie, married a Philadelphia architect. There are other photos showing scenes in and around Philadephia that were obviously taken at the same time. In this photo, Imogene, Ruth and Annie Ray are easily identified, however, the man in the back only "appears" to be...

This is based on the fact that Ruth Boomer Thomas, daughter of Berthaldine and sister of Bertie, married a Philadelphia architect. There are other photos showing scenes in and around Philadephia that were obviously taken at the same time. In this photo, Imogene, Ruth and Annie Ray are easily identified, however, the man in the back only "appears" to be Claude Rahn. This is based on photo 1-014 which clearly shows Claude and was taken at the same location as this photo. It may also be Dudley Andrews, brother of Allen and Annie Ray. The dating of this photograph is based on the following: Ruth Boomer was born in 1888. In 1900 she was living in Chicago (census). In 1934 (according to the "Community Current Events") Ruth lived in Philadelphia, was married and already had her only known child, Benjamin Brooks Thomas. Ruth is listed in the 1920 census in Philadelphia. Community Current Events (CCE) - Jan 1933 mentions Ruth and "young son" Benjamin Brooks Thomas - when was he born [10/17/02] -- The 1920 US Census shows Ruth Boomer married to Walter H. Thomas.

Laurence (Laurie) Bubbett.
-
Abstract/Description
-
A young "Laurie" Bubbett poses for the camera. It is unclear whether this photo was taken on the Unity grounds. Since Laurie was born in 1884 and he was approximately 10 years old when he arrived in Florida, this photo appears to have been taken sometime after 1900.

Laurie Bubbett Posing with Violin.
-
Abstract/Description
-
Laurie Bubbett was known as an accomplished violin player. In this photo, his dress indicates that the photo was taken in the north, perhaps in Chicago. He appears younger, with a moustache. The bookcase behind him indicates a northern site as well since so many of the photos at Estero were taken outdoors. However, Laurie was born in 1884 and he appears to be at least 18 years old here. He and his family arrived in Estero in 1894. If it was taken in Chicago, it would have been on a visit.

Ruth Boomer and Wilton Hoyt.
-
Abstract/Description

Wilton Hoyt and Ruth Boomer are seated on a bench in front of a large coconut palm tree. It may be Estero Beach, but the exact location is unknown. This photo is one of numerous where Wilton Hoyt stands or sits close to Ruth Boomer. It appears that they may have been close, although she eventually left the Unity and ended up marrying a Philadelphia architect with the last name of Thomas. Show moreWilton Hoyt and Ruth Boomer are seated on a bench in front of a large coconut palm tree. There are, however, numerous photographs that suggest a relationship between Ruth Boomer and Wilton Hoyt. This is suggested by the many photos that show them sitting side by side, either alone or with others. She later had a son named Benjamin Brook. There are some photos of some of her generation of Koreshans visiting in Philadelphia. Also, there is at least one photo of her son in the collection. According to "Folks we Knew..." Wilton Hoyt worked in the Miami fire department and later returned to his family "...in the north."
