By 1982, the City of Sanibel took over the twenty-five acres of property surrounding the Algiers, and after considering it as a potential spot for its City Hall, decided the boat had deteriorated too far to be renovated, and dismantled it after holding an auction of many of its parts. The site of the Algiers is now Gulfside Park. A closeup view of the boat's nameplate and depth markings.
