In June 1988, the Florida Geological Survey and the South Florida Water Management District entered into a contract to conduct a joint project in Lee, Hendry and Collier counties. The objectives of this project were to increase the geologic/hydrogeologic well data available in these counties, to translate existing lithologic descriptions of wells within the district to computer format and to add this data to the District computer data base. The objectives of this project were to increase the geologic/hydrogeologic well data available in these counties, to translate existing lithologic descriptions of wells within the district to computer format and to add this data to the District computer data base. These objectives were met by the translation of over 180 existing well logs to computer format, by drilling and evaluating the data for six cores, and merging all of this data with the existing FGS and District computer data bases.

Presents data for fiscal year 1994/1995 related to the estuarine water quality monitoring program. It was hoped that this would begin to establish ground water quality values. The study area includes the Southern Coastal, Faka-Union Canal, and L-28 Interceptor Canal drainage basins. 13 locations in this area were sampled during April and August/September of 1995. Locations of the sampling sites, methodology, and results are discussed. A brief bibliography is included. Tables of data are...

This study supplements a 1951-1952 U.S. Geological Survey investigation of the ground-water resources of the Naples area. It was directed mainly at obtaining data to determine changes in the amount of ground-water in storage and to monitor the movement of salt water in the area. Additional information was obtained on the physical character of the aquifer and the chemical quality of the water during construction of a new well field in the northeastern part of Naples. This supplementary report was prepared chiefly from data obtained through the city's efforts to establish a permanent well field.

- Hydrologic Effects of Storm of September 1-3, 1983, in Golden Gate City, Collier County, Florida.
- Name/Creator
-
Johnson Engineering, Inc, South Florida Water Management District (Fla.)
- Abstract/Description
-
The storm event of September 1-2, 1983 in western Collier County, Florida produced flooding in the northern portion of Golden Gate City. This report documents the rainfall, surface water elevations and groundwater table and the water surface elevations in canals in the Golden Gate City area, especially those in the northerly section. One week later runoff from the rainfall of September 1-2 was superimposed onto canals that were still removing water from the previous rainfall.

The U.S. Geological Survey was requested in 1967 to locate areas that would most likely yield the greatest quantities of the best quality water to satisfy the projected municipal needs of western Collier County. The investigation included the following phases: evaluation of existing data; determination of the hydrologic and geologic characteristics of the subsurface materials; collection of miscellaneous discharge data in the inland canal complex and interpretation of the data; and...

- Preliminary analyses of seagrass and benthic infauna in Johnson and Clam Bays, Collier County, Florida.
- Name/Creator
-
Devlin, Donna J., Gore, Robert H., Proffitt, C. Edward., Collier County (Fla.), PALMM (Project)
- Abstract/Description
-
Development and proposed development has brought about the need for seagrass and infauna studies to help determine the impact of present and future development on the ecosystem. This report compares the ecosystem of Clam Bay, considered to be a "stressed", or developed system, and Johnson Bay, considered to be an unstressed area.

Show moreBiological field sampling and analysis have been an active part of Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council's 208 program since April 1977. Methodologies and preliminary dry season results are presented for Chokoloskee, Naples, and Wiggins Pass estuarine bays of south Florida. Results of field sampling and the literature search are summarized in evaluated ecosystem diagrams of each bay. All estuaries sampled are viable productive biological systems. They are all actively processing organic matter and show net organic reductions from inputs to outputs, which suggests that nutrient regeneration capabilities are still intact. As a waste assimilation system, Naples Bay is being maximized; as a fisheries production area, it is organically overloaded. Chokoloskee Bay and Wiggins Pass area exhibit net fish production.
