Several methods were used to examine the possible effects of the unplanned release of pollutants on water quality in Tampa Bay. These included examination of observed water quality data prior to, during, and following the release. Second, the mass of pollutants released was compared to the ambient mass of that pollutant in the bay waters adjacent to the release point. Third, a mechanistic model was used to examine the potential effects of the unplanned release.
