Francis Bailey walks along the road next to the Bailey General Store in the early 1950s. Francis took over the operation of the store from his father, who had run it since its inception in 1899. San Carlos Bay is behind him, and the Sanibel lighthouse is visible in the distance at the eastern end of the island.
