Effects of Nitrogen and Phosphorus dditions on Phytoplankton Productivity and Chlorophyll in a Subtropical Estuary, Charlotte Harbor, Florida
- Date Issued:
- 1991
- Summary:
- This report presents the results of a study to evaluate the effects of inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus additions on phytoplankton productivity and chlorophyll-a concentrations in a subtropical Florida coastal plain estuary and assesses the potential effects of increased nutrient concentrations on future phytoplankton production within the Charlotte Harbor system. The results of this estuarine phytoplankton productivity study are discussed in terms of the seasonal and areal variations in ambient-nutrient concentrations and hydrologic conditions. The potential implications that increased anthropogenic-nutrient inputs may have on primary productivity within specific hydrologically defined areas of the harbor are also examined.
