Salinity characteristics and distribution and effects of alternative plans for freshwater withdrawal, Little Manatee River estuary and adjacent areas of Tampa Bay, Florida
- Date Issued:
- 1985
- Summary:
- The purpose of the project is to provide analysis and supporting data required in evaluating the probable effects of alternative plans of freshwater withdrawal on the Little Manatee River estuary and adjacent areas of Tampa Bay. Probable effects include changes in the physical, chemical, and biological environments. The scope of the study includes the following specific objectives: 1) describe the salinity characteristics of the Little Manatee River estuary and adjacent areas of Tampa Bay for a range of base flows and tides; 2) delineate the distribution of vegetation along the shore of the Little Manatee River estuary; 3) Develop relations that describe the salinity distributions as a function of freshwater inflow and astronomical tide, particularly location of the saltwater front; and 4) evaluate the change in location of the saltwater front for alternative plans for water-supply diversion.
