Today in our mechanized society an increased variety and abundance of off-the-road vehicles are used in outdoor recreation throughout the country. Coincident with heavier usage of these vehicles is a growing concern among several segments of the public about their possible deleterious effects up on the environment and in particular upon wildlife, vegetation and soil. Recent national meetings and symposia and increased research efforts attest to the relevance of the situation (U.S.D.I., 1971).
