Summary:
On July 20, 1994 Governor Lawton Chiles issued Executive Order 94-187 establishing the East Everglades 8.5 Square Mile Area Study Committee. The committee was charged with analyzing the hydrology and ecology of the 8.5 Square Mile Area within western Dade County and its relationship to the protection and restoration of Everglades National Park and Florida Bay. The committee was further directed to study the environmental and economic impacts of alternatives designed to restore the natural values of the region while protecting the 8.5 Square Mile Area. This report summarizes the work of the committee and presents its recommendations.
