Summary:
The Central and Southern Florida Project was authorized by the Flood Control Acts of 1948 (Public Law 858, 80th Congress, 2nd Session) published as House Document 642, 80th Congress, 2nd Session. Major modification of the Central and Southern Florida Project, in the interest of water supplies and recreation, was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1968 (Public Law 483, 90th Congress). Other modifications, in the interest of flood control, to the project were authorized in the Flood Control Acts of 1960 (Public Law 645, 86th Congress), 1962 (Public Law 874, 87th Congress), and 1965 (Public Law 29, 89th Congress). The project was modified again in 1970 by resolutions of the House and Senate Public Works Committees to provide small-boat navigation facilities in the Kissimmee and upper St. Johns Rivers Basins.
