| Summary: | During May and June of 1983, the National Park Service's Southeast Archeological Center conducted a five-week program of testing and evaluation of the Legare Anchorage Shipwreck site in Biscayne National Park. The site was originally identified in a 1975 cultural resource survey conducted by the Southeast Archeological Center and subsequently was subject to vandalism by local treasure salvors. This ongoing destruction made the archeological testing of the Legare Anchorage site the number one priority in the Park's 1982 Cultural Resource Management Plan. | |
