- Summary:
- This report summarizes estimates of the relative susceptibility and status of seventeen estuaries on the East Coast from North Carolina through Florida with respect to nutrient-related pollution (figure 1). It is one report in a series being developed to assist the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency implement its Near Coastal Waters and National Estuary Programs. It follows a case study for estuaries in the northeast (NOAA/EPA, 1988) and two similar assessments for estuaries in the Gulf of Mexico and those along the East Coast from Maine through Virginia (NOAA/EPA, 1989a, 1989b). The information in this report is intended to increase understanding of coastal environmental problems and to serve as a screening tool for coastal resource decision-making.
