Summary:
Deteriorating water quality in the Everglades Protection Area has been attributed to the inflow of nutrient-laden runoff from the Everglades Agricultural Area. Pursuant to legislative and judicial directives, the South Florida Water Management District is in the process of implementing various management programs to improve water quality in the agricultural runoff. A major element in these programs is the use of constructed wetlands as stormwater treatment areas for the removal of phosphorus.
