The author discusses the feasibility of breeding the American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus), an endangered species whose northern habitat range lies within Everglades National Park, in captivity. Zoos have had some success with captive breeding, and the author discusses the variables which seem necessary for this success. A review of the current status of all captive crocodiles at various roadside attractions in Florida--potential breeding stock--is included. The author offers the requirements, both legal and functional, necessary for a crocodile propagation facility.
