| Summary: | The authors report on censuses conducted of the Schaus swallowtail (Papilio aristodemus ponceanus) and Bahama swallowtail (Papilio andraemon bonhotei) butterflies, both federally-listed threatened species, along the islands in Biscayne Bay, in southern Florida, from 1979 to 1981. Habitat disturbances have reduced the range and numbers of these threatened species. An included map shows the survey transect routes. As a further note, the authors argue that there is not enough evidence to establish permanent residency of the Bahama swallowtail butterfly in the United States. | |
