The geology of this region is rather unique, because there is a succession of carbonate sediments followed by a complex mix of siliciclastic sediments (beginning in the Oligocene). The geographic location of the county and the mixing of the sediments caused the aquifer system beneath the county to be quite complex with numerous different aquifers present., It is critical to understand the geology and hydrology of this area because many of the aquifers are or will be used for water supply. Also, the deep aquifer system is used for the disposal of liquid wastes, such as oil field brines, concentrates from desalination plants, and treated domestic wastewater.

The goal was to define more explicitly the criteria by which we can judge the success of efforts to achieve restoration. The experts assembled were tasked with defining criteria for recognizing success at restoration of the Everglades system and to devise criteria for measuring progress toward successful restoration, and for recognizing setbacks in the restoration efforts while they can still be corrected.

- Soil reaction as a basis for certain land management practices: a symposium.
- Name/Creator
-
Florida, Soil Science Society of Florida, PALMM (Project)
- Abstract/Description
