The primary purpose of this program is to map the significant inland water resource areas of the District. This phase pertains to Collier County. The principal work product generated by the program is a map of each study area which depicts major sloughs and transition zones, topographical contours, significant roads and culverts, small sub-divided acreage and section corners with reference numbers.

This study, done by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Florida Marine Research Institute, under contract to the Southwest Florida Water Management District was intended to assess upstream movement of salt marshes over time as an indicator of long term salinity changes in the Myakka and Peace rivers. Determining this status helps to contribute to the proper management of the Charlotte Harbor estuarine system.

This report presents the results of the initial quantification of background water quality in each of Florida's major potable aquifer systems. It contains a series of maps which provide the background hydrogeochemical parameters present within the state's principal aquifer systems. Results are interpreted in light of factors that affect ambient ground-water quality locally and regionally.
