-
Abstract/Description
-
The Florida Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey and the city of Sarasota, drilled and analyzed a deep core hole located at the Sarasota Downtown Well Field. The investigation focused on the Neogene and Paleogene lithostratigraphy and the Floridan aquifer system. A lithologic description for the core was genereated utilizing a binocular microscope.

The radiochemical data presented in this report were acquired by selective sampling and logging of existing wells and new wells as they were drilled between January 1976 and April 1979. Wells selected for radiochemical sampling were those open to specific water-bearing zones or those which were sampled at specific depths as they were drilled. These samples were analyzed for radium-226 and occasionally for radium-228, and for major ions. Borehole geophysical logging techniques that were used...

Borehole geophysical logging techniques that were used to determine the water-bearing zones were gamma ray, caliper, electrical resistivity, temperature, and conductivity.

Data were collected for this study from January 1976 to July 1980. Water samples were collected from existing wells that were open to specific water-bearing zones or from specific water-bearing zones in new wells before drilling. 110 water samples collected from discrete water-bearing zones were selected to interpret the distribution of radium-226. Occasional reference is made to radiochemical or hydrogeological information for nearby counties or Florida in general.

Physical Processes, Salinity Characteristics, and Potential Salinity Changes due to Freshwater Withdrawals in the Tidal Myakka River, Florida.
-
Name/Creator
-
Hammett, K. M., Sarasota County (Fla.), Geological Survey (U.S.)
-
Abstract/Description
-
This report presents results of a study of streamflow, tide, and salinity patterns in the tidal reach of the Myakka River, including a mathematical expression describing saltwater movement as a function of measured streamflow and tide. The results are based on data collected between 1983 and 1987.

Sarasota County Intermediate Aquifer System Core Drilling and Analysis.
-
Name/Creator
-
Campbell, Kenneth M. (Kenneth Mark)
-
Abstract/Description
-
The Florida Geological Survey, in cooperation with the U.S. Geological Survey and Sarasota County, drilled and analyzed two core holes in Sarasota County. This investigation focused on the Neogene stratigraphy of the intermediate aquifer system in the two cores which were drilled into the Oligocene "Suwannee Limestone" and the top of the Floridan aquifer system.
