Laurie Bubbett Posing with Violin.
-
Abstract/Description
-
Laurie Bubbett was known as an accomplished violin player. In this photo, his dress indicates that the photo was taken in the north, perhaps in Chicago. He appears younger, with a moustache. The bookcase behind him indicates a northern site as well since so many of the photos at Estero were taken outdoors. However, Laurie was born in 1884 and he appears to be at least 18 years old here. He and his family arrived in Estero in 1894. If it was taken in Chicago, it would have been on a visit.

Sanitorium on Estero River with the Boat called "The Star".

Abstract/Description

This photo shows the Sanitorium and two others buildings on that site. The boat's name is "The Star." Here is an excellent view of these buildings which are no longer standing and an area of the river which is no longer cleared. The exact location of this building is unknown, but it is believed to have been on the south shore, west of the current boat ramp and Bamboo Landing. Here is an excellent view of these buildings which are no longer standing and an area of the river which is no longer cleared. The exact location of this building is unknown, but it is believed to have been on the south shore, west of the current boat ramp and Bamboo Landing. The quality of construction leads some to believe that these buildings were constructed after 1900 and possibly even later (c. 1910). It is rumored that the materials from the Sanitorium were used to build the Boomer house on the north side of the river.

Group Posing in Winter Scene.
-
Abstract/Description
-
A group of four Koreshans posing in a Winter scene. This photo is one of a group of photographs that were presumably taken in Philadelphia. This is based on the fact that Ruth Boomer Thomas, daughter of Berthaldine and sister of Bertie, married a Philadelphia architect. There are other photos showing scenes in and around Philadephia that were obviously taken at the same time. This is based on the fact that Ruth Boomer Thomas, daughter of Berthaldine and sister of Bertie, married a Philadelphia architect. There are other photos showing scenes in and around Philadephia that were obviously taken at the same time. In this photo, Imogene, Ruth and Annie Ray are easily identified, however, the man in the back only "appears" to be Claude Rahn. This is based on photo 1-014 which clearly shows Claude and was taken at the same location as this photo. It may also be Dudley Andrews, brother of Allen and Annie Ray. The dating of this photograph is based on the following: Ruth Boomer was born in 1888. In 1900 she was living in Chicago (census). In 1934 (according to the "Community Current Events") Ruth lived in Philadelphia, was married and already had her only known child, Benjamin Brooks Thomas. Ruth is listed in the 1920 census in Philadelphia. Community Current Events (CCE) - Jan 1933 mentions Ruth and "young son" Benjamin Brooks Thomas - when was he born [10/17/02] -- The 1920 US Census shows Ruth Boomer married to Walter H. Thomas.

Group posing with horse and carriage.
-
Abstract/Description
-
A group of approximately 16 people posing among the saw palmetto with a horse and carriage. Only a few are identifiable, such as Alfred Christiansen (third man standing from the left), and Wilton Hoyt (standing next to horse). The man to Alfred's right appears to be one of the Graham brothers. The identity of some of the others in the picture might be established by comparing it to others. From a scrapbook given by the widow of Mace Stephens.

Laurence (Laurie) Bubbett.
-
Abstract/Description
-
A young "Laurie" Bubbett poses for the camera. It is unclear whether this photo was taken on the Unity grounds. Since Laurie was born in 1884 and he was approximately 10 years old when he arrived in Florida, this photo appears to have been taken sometime after 1900.

Group of Koreshan men.
-
Abstract/Description
-
Eight young men pose for the camera. From left to right: Alfred Christiansen, Lloyd Graham, Walter Bartsch, Laurie Bubbett, Layard Campbell, Claude Rahn, Robert Graham, and possibly Stewart Bosanquet (seated). This photo is one of a group of photos that were all taken at the same time (based on the location and clothing). All the photos feature a group of "second generation" Koreshans. Identification is based on the caption located in the "Koreshan Story" by Sara Rea.

Group of Koreshan women.
-
Abstract/Description
-
This photo appears to have been taken at the same time as fgcu_kc_0033, as well as a number of other photos in the collection. These would be groups of younger Koreshans. From left to right: Bertie Boomer, Rosalea McCready, Vesta Newcomb, Alice Lowe, Edna Schwindel, Florence Graham and Imogene Bubbett Rahn.

Ruth Boomer, Annie Ray Andrews, Imogene Bubbett Rahn and Claude Rahn posing.
-
Abstract/Description
-
Ruth Boomer, Annie Ray Andrews, Imogene Bubbett Rahn and Claude Rahn posing for a picture during winter. Some of the emulsion has been pulled off the face of the photograph. It appears that some tape had been placed across the front of the photo. This photo, along with several others were taken in a winter setting. Speculation is that they were taken in Philadelphia, which is where Ruth Boomer lived after her marriage.

Koreshan Unity Orchestra.

Abstract/Description
-
Shows the Koreshan Unity Orchestra in the Art Hall. There were apparently other photos taken at the same time. Other related photos provide personal identification. Based on photo #3-040, this photo was taken in April 1907. Though several poses vary, the clothing and faces appear to be the same.
