The Bailey Dock, with a storage building at its end, extended out into San Carlos Bay at the foot of Bailey Road until Hurricane Donna in 1960. Construction for the Sanibel Causeway is not yet present, and in the distance the Sanibel Lighthouse can be seen as the photo looks eastward out towards the Gult of Mexico.

Woodring Family Dock.

The Woodring family Dock at the mouth of Tarpon Bay on Woodring Point, looking into San Carlos Bay on the north shore of Sanibel. The dock is used recreationally, for guiding trips, and for bait shrimp collection. The Woodring family homesteaded on the Point in 1888, and generations of the family have been fishermen and guides on the island.

Woodring Point Neighbors on Dock.

Esperanza Woodring and Tom Wood, Woodring Point neighbors, share fresh mangrove coon oysters, using the dock for their table. Wood was the first J. N. "D'ing" Darling National Wildlife Refuge manager, when it was at first called the Sanibel National Refuge. He lived at the far end of the point, behind them in the distance to the west, in an old Woodring family homestead.

Flora Sanibel Woodring Morris was the first non-Indian child thought to be born on Sanibel, the daughter of homesteaders Sam and Anna Woodring of Woodring Point. In 1911 she married John Morris, later a Lee County Commissioner.

Mabel Critchley, in center, owned the Burnap Cottage on Sanibel's Woodring Point from 1935 to 1948. She was the sister of George Scoville, who owned it starting in 1917. The cottage is now a part of the Sanibel Historical Village and Museum.
