Show moreThe U.S. Geological Survey, in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Regulation and the Broward County Utilities Department, conducted a sampling reconnaissance of secondary treated effluent recovered from a moderately saline zone of the Floridan aquifer system. The sampling was conducted in Pompano Beach, Florida. The primary purpose of this investigation and report was to measure and describe the variation in levels of selected physical and chemical variables during a 69 million gallon backflow of the injected effluent. The data collection was designed to provide background and furnish documentation of the general efficacy of recovery of injected treated municpal effluent. 40 samples of backflowed effluent were collected for selected analyses during the 69 million gallon backflow period. The sampling periods were March to August 1975 and April 1976 to March 1977.

- Development of GIS-based maps to determine the status and trends of oligohaline vegetation in the tidal Peace and Myakka Rivers.
- Name/Creator
-
Florida, Southwest Florida Water Management District (Fla.), Florida Marine Research Institute, PALMM (Project)
- Abstract/Description
-
This study, done by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Florida Marine Research Institute, under contract to the Southwest Florida Water Management District was intended to assess upstream movement of salt marshes over time as an indicator of long term salinity changes in the Myakka and Peace rivers. Determining this status helps to contribute to the proper management of the Charlotte Harbor estuarine system.

Show moreThis report briefly describes the cooperative investigations carried on in Manatee, Pinellas, Orange, Seminole and Duval counties in 1930 and 1931. Information was obtained in regard to wells, the water-bearing formations, the quality of water, and the general geologic conditions that govern the occurrence of the ground water. Measurements were made periodically on numerous observation wells. Automatic water-stage recorders, which give continuous records of the fluctuations of the water levels, were installed on two non-flowing wells, and recording pressure gauges were installed on three flowing wells that were shut down and not in use. Altitudes of some of the observation wells were determined, so that the height of water in them with reference to sea level may be accurately determined.

Show moreThis report presents the results of a study to evaluate the effects of inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus additions on phytoplankton productivity and chlorophyll-a concentrations in a subtropical Florida coastal plain estuary and assesses the potential effects of increased nutrient concentrations on future phytoplankton production within the Charlotte Harbor system. The results of this estuarine phytoplankton productivity study are discussed in terms of the seasonal and areal variations in ambient-nutrient concentrations and hydrologic conditions. The potential implications that increased anthropogenic-nutrient inputs may have on primary productivity within specific hydrologically defined areas of the harbor are also examined.
