This photo shows the Sanitorium and two others buildings on that site. The boat's name is "The Star." Here is an excellent view of these buildings which are no longer standing and an area of the river which is no longer cleared. The exact location of this building is unknown, but it is believed to have been on the south shore, west of the current boat ramp and Bamboo Landing. The quality of construction leads some to believe that these buildings were constructed after 1900 and possibly even...
Show moreThis photo shows the Sanitorium and two others buildings on that site. The boat's name is "The Star." Here is an excellent view of these buildings which are no longer standing and an area of the river which is no longer cleared. The exact location of this building is unknown, but it is believed to have been on the south shore, west of the current boat ramp and Bamboo Landing. The quality of construction leads some to believe that these buildings were constructed after 1900 and possibly even later (c. 1910). It is rumored that the materials from the Sanitorium were used to build the Boomer house on the north side of the river.

A group of approximately 16 people posing among the saw palmetto with a horse and carriage. Only a few are identifiable, such as Alfred Christiansen (third man standing from the left), and Wilton Hoyt (standing next to horse). The man to Alfred's right appears to be one of the Graham brothers. The identity of some of the others in the picture might be established by comparing it to others. From a scrapbook given by the widow of Mace Stephens.

Shows the Koreshan Unity Orchestra in the Art Hall. There were apparently other photos taken at the same time. Other related photos provide personal identification. Based on photo #3-040, this photo was taken in April 1907. Though several poses vary, the clothing and faces appear to be the same.

Ada Case on the left and Imogene Bubbett Rahn on the right, standing next to a frame house and down from a large brick building. The caption reference to "Myers" refers to Fort Myers, Florida. According to the McCready membership list, Carlton Case, a member of the Koreshan Unity in Chicago, married Ada Grier and lived in Fort Myers. Also note that Carlton Case is the man who accidentally killed Bertie Boomer. The caption reads: "Taken in Myers During Fair Week, Feb. 18' Imogene and Ada Case."

The photo was made into a postal card, but having been cut down to size (in the original scrapbook), most of the message has been cut off, however, it appears that it was addressed to Imogene Bubbett (see "gene") and mentioned "Sister Evelyn". The man, standing behind two of the women, appears to be Franklin Jacke (based on other known photos of him). Wilton Hoyt and Ruth Boomer are seated on a bench in front of a large coconut palm tree. It may be Estero Beach, but the exact location is unknown. This photo is one of numerous where Wilton Hoyt stands or sits close to Ruth Boomer. It appears that they may have been close, although she eventually left the Unity and ended up marrying a Philadelphia architect with the last name of Thomas. There are, however, numerous photographs that suggest a relationship between Ruth Boomer and Wilton Hoyt....

It appears that they may have been close, although she eventually left the Unity and ended up marrying a Philadelphia architect with the last name of Thomas. There are, however, numerous photographs that suggest a relationship between Ruth Boomer and Wilton Hoyt. This is suggested by the many photos that show them sitting side by side, either alone or with others. She later had a son named Benjamin Brook. There are some photos of some of her generation of Koreshans visiting in Philadelphia. Also, there is at least one photo of her son in the collection. According to "Folks we Knew..." Wilton Hoyt worked in the Miami fire department and later returned to his family "...in the north."
